Recent Turbo prices

Have you all seen the prices of turbos lately? Is it just me, not noticing, but man turbos seem to have soared in prices in the past few years. I'm seeing ones at almost $2200! Mid range is averaging around $1600-$1800, and lowest are stock replacements for around $800. Have they always been big dollars? Or has the last few years with the growing popularity of diesel racing and sled pulling raised the prices? Crazy high dollars. Seems all upgrades pertaining to diesel cost so much.
I remember going to a wrecking yard, that had nothing but dodge parts. I was looking for the elbow, that comes right off of the turbo. Guy wanted $80 for it. I asked him why, and he said " my boss says anything that stuff like this that is diesel related is marked up $50 over typical gas parts. I ended up going to Cummins for the part.

When automakers started putting turbo's on tiny little engines to comply with the CAFE requirements people caught on to the idea that turbo's are really nice to have. More demand = higher prices.

The Hungry Diesel offers the S362SXE (Best single for squeezing the most HP out of a VE pumped engine) for $1300 which is about what it has been for the past couple of years.

5 or 6 years ago when I was getting into this addiction, I picked up a couple used HE351CW's off Craigslist for $200 ish. Nowadays prices have doubled or more.

The ricers have driven prices up putting the biggest turbo they can find on their tiny engines.

I'd guess that a few things influence prices:

1) production run volume. Shrinking b/c it's nolonger used on other new production
2) exchange rates- they can cause fluctations.

doubling is probably because they made a new run which was 25% the size of the last one.

Bummer as I never could shellout $$ for it at $1300. Turned my fuel screw up some and it's driveable with the 366 spring.

I have about $600 into my 60mm HX35.

I have about that into my 60mm H1C, still not enough air though. Thinking about an HE351VGT and the Lil Blackbox.
