Sounds like ring and pinion. I would double check the joints while you're at it just in case.

Dana 70s are bad for spinning carrier bearings. They lose all of the preload and start to eat themselves up internally. Pull the cover, get a pry barr, and check for side to side play. If any, you need a rebuild. This can cause all kinds of weird noises before they get nasty and start falling apart.

Some drive-line play is normal. Its worth having a look at ever thing but don't panic. I woke up this morning to a cracked windshield. They sanded the roads up here for the snow and there is a small chip were the crack starts at the bottom of the window. Im thinking as it cooled over night the crack formed.
Good luck with your truck

If it's not howling I doubt it's the ring & pinion. Could be the bearings, but it's more likely the cross pin (open diff) or the clutches (limited slip). Pop the cover off and start looking around. If you can pry the diff up and down or side to side, it's bearing time. If there seems to be lots of slack inside the diff itself, then it's the cross pin/clutches.

Could be a loose pinion nut, and if the ring and pinion are wearing down they will have increased play, and won't whine because they wear together. My ring and pinion wore to the point that it broke some teeth off. Kaboom!

Yea! Look at pinion nut for backing off.

Did you check to make sure you have gear oil in there and that it didnt leak out somewhere?
