Rear spring w250 1991

im new on this forum.
i have more experience on late 60´s to late 70's muscle car.
just bought my first 1st gen cummins.

the rear is a bit lower than the front.
i cant find the original spec. So its difficult for me to understand what have been modified and whats bad.
obviously the bushing is bad.
Pls let me know what you think of these spring pack

Welcome to the forum, that said it would help if you would fill out your sig so everyone knows what we are working on.
All of the trucks I've seen have a lift block between the spring perch and the spring, depending on the year it will either be a 3" or a 6" block

USUALLY the '89-'90s come with the 3 inch blocks.
The '91s can be all over the road, but my '91.0 came with 6 inch blocks. The '92/'93 USUALLY come with the 6 inch springs.
All of this info, assumes you are working on a 4x4 truck, as the 2wd trucks don't come with those lift blocks.

Its looks to me like somebody replaced the leafs at some point. Maybe they had a particular ride height in mind.

I would probably take the last few stubby leafs out and install the 3" block.

Going further than that (replacing bushings, rusted-out hangers) is a lot of labour, and you may want to install something that rides better - longer leafs, shackle flip, etc.

Yes I agree, the bottom 7 leaves [all the ones with the thick square edge] do not look factory and where most likely added.
I bet it is a pretty stiff ride with that spring pack.

ok yes that's all making a lot of sens.
Yes the ride is super stiff and i guess the shocks are all dead

i will make it back to oem and new shocks

Definitely modified rear springs there. Significantly thicker lower leafs. Being a short they're providing a harsh ride, and blew out the bushings.

Remove the springs, bring to a spring shop, have them rebuild with less leafs, get a couple blocks from Oliver, and replace the u bolts with new. Inspect the hangers and replace if necessary

Look at that horrible shape! :o IMO, those leafs are in too sorry shape to put back in a truck after they come out. The stock pack has splayed from rust between the leafs, and the bottom leafs are acting like a massive add-a-leaf to try to put some curve back into the rest of it. Start with new steel. Might as well get the chevy 63" leafs and a shackle flip kit for a better ride if going through all the trouble of replacing.

Blocks and ubolts are only a quick bandaid to get the OP to the ride height he wants.

I would put new leafs in there. Prices don't seem bad on rockauto. But if the hangers are shot and need replacing, (OE or aftermarket hangers) go longer on the leafs.

Threads about longer leafs. One suggests that the chevy 63" spring has 3" more arch to begin with.
