Rear slider problems and info....

Well I just went through a huge hassle with ol' RAE. I had a nice dark tinted rear slider I pulled from a 86-ish parts truck I had. So I went out and pulled the beat up old original out of RAE and then proceeded to try and install the new tinted one.

Well after much cursing and swearing, with my neighbor grunting and swearing too, I finally discovered that the tinted window out of the 86-ish ram is bigger then the one from my 84.

I also learned that trying to re-use a 26 year old seal doesn't work so well. We got the original back in place but the original seal didn't fair so well.

So what year did the back windows change size?

Just had a thought, maybe it has something to do with a crewcab vs a regular cab?

The original rubber gasket that is on the truck now uses a round rubber locking strip that you install on the outside in a groove in the main gasket, after the window is in place.

The tinted window was actually taller then the original. Maybe it uses another style of gasket?

Alot of slider windows are aftermarket and require the special seal from that company.

Hmmmm...Well it doesn't look much like the original, so I'm guessing it might be an aftermarket unit. Now to try and figure out who made it and if I can get a gasket.
