Rear diff (carrier) question

Well, last week I was pulling a car trailer and car for about 3 hours. When I would make slow sharp turns at intersections you could really feel the rear end binding and popping. I pulled the diff, how do I get it apart and inspect it? How can I tell what type rear diff it is? I was told it is a locking type. There was not metal shavings in the gear oil, so maybe I am ok just to replace clutches.

When mine starts doing that, which it will after a hard pull, I get a bottle of anti-slip additive and put it in and it cures it. Mine has did that for 100,000 miles or more and I pull my trailer all over the country with no problems.

If you want to pull it, remove both axles, then remove diff cover. There are four bolts , two on eith side similar to a engine rod cap, pull caps and it will come out. However if you dont know how to set it up, go find someone that does or read a lot and buy a dial indicator. If your really brave you can try it but make sure you count the shims on either side and get em back in same order.

I have it out. There were no shims on either side of the caps. I just need to get it apart and check it out.
