I pulled off my drums and all of the brake hardware inside is pretty much garbage. Is there anywhere that sells a complete rebuild kits for a D60 as I would like to go 100% new parts? Or do I have to buy individual parts?

 

I don't think that there is a kit with everything, but there is a hardware kit with all the springs and such. Rock auto has everything you need...Mark

 

You should have a d70 in the rear no?

I have 2 extra spring kits for the rear that are brand new, i just dont have the cable kit which is part of the e-brake setup.

 

If I remember Sask is doing a Power Wagon / Cummins built.
He might be using the old Dana 60 in the Power Wagon to keep the front and rear ratios the same??

I am running the original Dana 60 rear in one of my '85 Crew Cab / Cummins trucks.
I figure if it goes...Time for a 2nd gen Dana 80.
I have a SRW Dana 80 with 4.10s and LSD ready to chuck under it, if the Dana 60 was to pop.

Otherwise Biltit is correct that all the 1st gen diesel trucks came with the Dana 70 rear,[or the 3.07 geared Dana 71]

 

I recently re/re'd the rear axle in my donor 93. Got all new hardware, E-brake adjustment cables, 1.125" wheel cylinders, and brake shoes...all for about $100.

You have to re-use the most of the E-brake hardware though. But it is all good metal pieces and they clean up fine.

Ok, I must ask since I am close to doing the same thing. Why is there an option of 12 or 11" drums? Do 150's have 11" and 250/350's have 12"?

 

Yes I am doing a Power Wagon conversion but using my CTD axles. I will recheck # on the tag on my diff cover, thought my buddy said numbers meant a D60.

BILTIT, I should buy those kits off of you, maybe finally see that truck seeing as we in same area lol.

 

CTD axles are Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear, UNLESS you have the "uncommon" 3.07 gear ratio.

The 3.07 gear need a special housing as the ring is so big.
It is call the Dana 61 front and Dana 71 rear.

The 3.07 gears came in the NON O/Ded 727 auto trucks mostly, but I have seen/heard of factory ordered 3.07 geared, auto A-518 and Getrag manual trucks

 

You can buy the self adjuster kits too, comes with the little cable, the lever that goes up against the starwheel, the starwheel assembly and the little spring.

Wager thermoquiet riveted brake shoes are on sale on rockauto right now, the 3" wide ones too which is what you want. and also get the 1 1/8 wheel cylinders, those with the 3" wide shoes will offer superior stopping power over the 2.5" wide ones

 

Yes I recommend buying the adjuster kit with the cable. My cable broke and piled up my ebrake on one side, ended up having to replace the brakes on both sides and went to 3" aswell as the larger wheel cylinders.

 

The piece at the end of my e-brake cable is totally mashed so I will need that set-up as well. BILTIT, where did you get your parts from?

 

something I found out about ebrake cables is that you can only get the one for a 4x4 for the left hand side witch is too long for the 2wd trucks but will work Ken

Saskattak is in canada, rockauto charges the crap out of us for shipping. It is however one of the best parts sites i have seen and i use it for reference all the time. I just wish we had something up here as good and as cheap as rockauto.
