Tommorow I am going to do the first valve adjustment on my truck since I bought it in may. I plan on using the procedure provided by this site. I was told by a reputable diesel shop in my area to go .09 on the intake and .18 on the exhaust. Any thoughts or advice regarding those specs.??. Any thing in particular to watch out for when doing this adjustment. I have a feeling the clearance hasn't been checked in a long long time
Thx. ahead of time for any info and Happy Holidays to all.

Going a little tight won't hurt anything, and will give a little more power. Just make sure you recheck clearance after you tighten the locknut, that tends to back the adjustment off.
The timing pin can be a PITA to get set, have some patients if your gonna do it that way. Make sure its out of the notch when you try to turn the engine again. Ive always done mine at 10 and 20 thousands. You might need new rocker box gaskets, their pretty inexpensive. they are reuseable if not torn or damaged.
Good luck.
Good luck.
