re-torquing the head bolts procedure

hi fellas

im gonna change out the valve cover gaskets and figured while im in there i might as well adjust the valves, i know there is a thread for that in the sticky so i think i should be able to handle that. while im in there i might as well re-torque the head right? shes got 240,000 on it and is mainly stock, what do yall think? is there a write up on how to do this and to what ft-lbs to torque them to?

thanks

Justin

I'm at work now and its not accessible to me right now but, I have the FSM for my 93. If your still coming out my way for school I could make you some copies of any info you need? One of my first mods was ARP studs when I had to do my head gasket. All I remember is there was something like 22 bolts, the 2 by the fire wall are a PITA to get at and I needed a 12pt socket.

If the truck is stock there is no reason to mess with the head leave it alone.

if you ever come to a point where you feel like you need to re-torque the head bolts, you probably need studs.

Lucky you! I only get from Dec 20th to Jan 3rd off from school! Let me know if you need any pages from the FSM. I just talked with the farmer I help out and we might be headed out, one day, your way over the next few weeks. We have to go to Kahn tractor in Franklin and possibly Tractor Supply.

Yea its got everything one could want to know and more about these trucks. As for adjusting the valves look here first https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=143557 . The FSM doesn't have pictures as good as this thread.
If its next week it will be Mon or Wed, I will be heading out there but, if not it will be the following week. At least that's the plan for now. I bought the wrong over running clutch for my brush hog and have to return it for the right one at Tractor Supply.
