Radiator muff and cold weather

I am now waking up in the teens, and the first morning i drove 30 miles after the truck was plugged in, Mixed highway and city driving,, temp was at 180 the last few miles, When i got to work i sat in the lot waiting for my workers to show up for about 10 minutes, i watched the temp gauge get up to 200, and then she dropped to 175, Realizing that the thermostat finally opened after i get to work, I NEED A RAD MUFF!!!!, So i made one from heave oiled canvas, covering the entire grill, ONly allowing air through the small opening under the grill, about 4" worth,
Well while driving like that highway and city traffic in the 30's, The therm opens pretty quick, and has no issues with keeping the engine from overheating, and i am feeling comfortable knowing that i am driving at normal operating temperatures!
Just thought you all may like to know!
Peter.

Winter fronts are still available for these trucks, too, for those without the skills or motivation to make their own.

Here's how I did mine. Stealth winter front - can't hardly even notice it is there:

Four pieces of vinyl floor mat cut to fit right inside the four grill openings. Some sheet metal tabs screw in behind the same screws that hold the grill inserts. Put two in when it starts to get cold. Add the 3rd when it starts staying below freezing. Add the fourth when it gets real cold. Opens up by unscrewing one tab in the center of the grill and pull back to hook on the brush guard.

During the winters up here, I remove the fan completely. If it warms above 0* outside I have to watch the temp gauge but that dosen't happen much. I also block off the radiator. The PO had a LUND snap in grill cover but when $$ alows I'll go get a winter front from AK tent and Tarp. Those are much mor adjustible than the snap in ones,

True, but I go shopping to find the best piece of cardboard, the widescreen TV is a bonus.... (boy talk about justification, about how that TV is doing its job of keeping me warmer on the road....)
