Quick question

What keeps these motors running. like a power wire on a coil but what does it on these. I am thinking of hooking up a switch so i can flip it on the turn my key off and lock the doors so i can run in the store and leave it running. What would i have to do to achieve this?

you have to keep power to the shut off solinoid, or gut the solinoid and install a pull cable kill

they both are hooked to the same source so you can power one or the other or both

Why don't you leave it running and unlock the doors with a spare key? Rich

I second that. I carry two keys at all time.

My ignition cylinder is so worn out I can probably start the truck with a screwdriver. I can just pull my keys out with the engine running and lock the doors. I have a pull cable too so I have 2 options. I should probably do something about that though

my 93 had a gutted solenoid and the wire on the top was just hanging and you could turn the key off while it was running and remove the key and lock the door and walk away with it idling. No dash no anything. just a rattling engine.....so gut the solenoid, add a cable, disconnect wire to the solenoid incase and there ya go.

On some of these trucks, with the engine running, you can simply pull out the key and walk away; have you tried yours ??

For anti-tampering, it would probably be best to route a switched HOT wire to the top of the fuel-solenoid.(Of course, my option would be to "gut" the solenoid and use a kill-cable.)

Then, you can turn ON this switch, turn OFF the key, and, as already stated, the column and other KEY-ON functions will be dis-abled; be sure and set the park-brake.

the only thing I don't like about the pull cable is if you decide to kill the igntion but keep the engine idling, you can't run the A/C... man that would be nice. good thing I can pull my key out too I guess...
