Wink Quandry ?

I have a 91 D250. I have kept up all of the recommended maintenance by the dealer and changed the oil religiously every 3K miles. The paint is pealing and surface rust is appearing everywhere. The rear fenders are fairly rusted out. My question is: Based on the age of the truck and possibility of hard to find parts, would it make more sense to invest in some body work (I hate the way the truck looks); or, look for a later model to upgrade ? I've read a few posts about expensive fuel pump problems but not enough to know what years to ignore and the best years to pursue. Any advice is appreciated.

....Thanks

If I had a 91 12V I would keep it and fix it up! However these newer trucks do ride better and use the space inside better (03 to 05 was my fav dash panels my 06 is the worst IMO) I guess what I would really do is fix up the 91 or leave it as is and get a used 03 or up common rail for trips. You can never have too many 5.9 Cummins trucks sitting around

I don't drive it long distances, only locally. The odometer quit working at 143K so I estaimate it has 200K.

Where are you located? I may have some body parts for sale if I part out the 92 I have.

I live in northern Delaware. I really don't need any parts yet but I will if I don't get some body work done soon. Can anybody briefly explain the fuel pump problems with the later series and if I have the same worry ?

For fifty bucks I'll take it off your hands. Who needs that old thing hanging around.

The VP44 problems don't pertain to these trucks. Lift pumps are a common failure on the first gens, but cheap to fix for less than $100.00 for a stock replacement.

I say sell it, then kick yourself daily for getting rid of it. I had an intercooled 91 that got 24-25mpg hwy, and it kept eating u-joints (driveshaft problems- could have gotten a new one for <$300; didnt know that at the time). I sold it for a handsome profit, but still wish I had it. I do like my extended cab, though. But, for what I have put in my last 2 trucks, I could have bought a McKinley conversion and had the best of both worlds.

Fix it.

For what a new one costs you can keep it fixed for a hundred years.

I just looked at ebay .... Ouch ! Lots of good info here. By the way, with the 3:07 rear I average 30mpg. Better than anything else I have heard in a long time.

How do you know that if your odometer stopped working?

Talking odometer stopped working

The odometer stopped working about 6 months ago. I verified the mileage 5 times since it was new (and before the odometer quit).
