1220 degrees is the magic number for aluminum to melt but it takes some time. Just be sure that you don't sustain temps above 1200 degrees for any longer than 20 seconds at the very most. As always, also be sure to let temps come down to below 400 degrees before shutting 'er off. 400 degrees at most is an ok temp to shut off if you're in a hurry.
Thank you both the probe is in a BD pulse manifold and I am suprized at how quick the temps go up and down. Cools quick. I have not had it passed 850 but that is without a load on the truck.

Towing and competition are two different things. Competition is short enough that EGT is really not important. You can pass your finger through a candle flame and not get burned, but if you hold it there it's going to get painfully hot. A 13 second dragtrip pass at 1600 degrees won't hurt the pistons, but working a 5 mile grade at 1600 degrees will aluminize your exhaust tubing - from the inside.

yeah i bet youd be shocked at what some pullers probably are running near the end of their runs. lots of those guys move some big fuel with no water/meth or nitrous and do it with a single turbo.
