The duallies didn't come with a bed, so the military made one for it in this case. Looks like it came off a bigger truck and the wheel wells were moved.

After a lot of thinking, I would rather find a 1st gen frame and cut it down for the short military bed. Then I could install my 4BT (after I go through it) and not have to make a doghouse in the cab. I have a second 1941 WC chassis and front grill and fenders, just need a cab. But before I do that, I need to assemble the 440 for my 1969 Dart GT and get that going. I'm not getting any younger, so I need to step on the gas.

Makes sense though. Find a 1st gen frame with a bad body and set it on that. I hear the 4Bs don't run as "smooth" but I've never experienced one. A lot have been transplanted into Power Wagons using the original frame & axles.
Keep us "updated" and, no hurry, but I did turn 60 last month... just saying...

The 4BT is capable of running a bread truck into the low 12's. I watched a video of these boys from Atlanta that did that then went out to Idaho, or Utah and really built it up.

I'm going on 63, gotta get moving on this stuff. I read that a really nice harmonic balancer smooths the 4bt right out.

That may be the ticket. There seems to be several applications where a 4B makes sense over a 6B when you need a lighter front end and don't really need all that much torque from a 6. But still get the Cummins with the sound...

28 MPG wouldn't suck either. A friend has repowered several some 60's Napco Chevy 4x4's and gets 28-30MPG.

Since you've had plenty of time to ponder, have you pondered all the way to the final look? A re-paint or leave as is?

My first glimpse of a WC was an open cab at Long Beach CA in 1980. Up until then they were only in books or my grandfather's old sales literature of WDXs, Bs & Cs from when he was a DPCD salesman. It sat up so high compared to the others and just oozed "real truck".

Funny how those projects get sidelined for years. I have a diesel scout waiting for a 6BT running gear swap, waiting for 5 or 6 years! At 65 I better get going, running out of time! Working fulltime and a limited bank account makes it difficult.
Have you posted pics of the Dart? I found mine online a while back; a 67 GT, slant 6, bought new by my folks and became my first car, sold it in 1984. It was a dealer video, the dealer was in the Netherlands and the new owner is in Germany. He sends me pics and vids now and then. Got me wanting one real bad!
So Mark, lead by example. Some of us could use the encouragement and we'd get to see cool pictures.
