The VE injection pumps don't require any special timing. As long as your gears are timed properly, that is what is the most important, then all you do is line up the key ways and install.

Are you sure the woodruff key was secure and in place before you tightened up the nut on the IP shaft? That key can sometimes be a real PITA to get in and lined up.

I've had a few IP off for reseals, and I've had a couple that took me a couple hours to get everything perfect and to my liking.

Grab your $10.00 HF digital caliper and measure the slot. Width's are pretty standard, as are lengths. You could probably guess close enough with a tape measure.l

Well that would be your problem then...shaft was not locked into the timing gear. Doooh!

Use a bunch of bearing grease on and around the shaft and woodruff key....it might just grab the key if it comes loose. I know it's saved my butt a couple times.
