OK.. so my truck has a "poppy" idle like a detonation and enough white smoke to clear a parking lot, both symptoms get worse when the engine is under a load at idle and won't clear up. I was talking to my pump guy and he says I may have broken one or both of the below springs. He says it happens a lot. Is there truth to this? Could this really be the problem.

Happens alot. The rpm will start to have a mind of its own going down the road, hit a bump, and the rpm's will bounce around. That's just one symptom.

 

Alright, I haven't even torn the pump apart yet and didn't want to spend the money if there was a different problem. I guess I'll just have him take a look at the rest of the pump while he's in there. Thanks.
