Pulling Truck ???'s
Pulling Truck ???'s
Just aquired a 1990 dodge with the 5.9. The truck is 2wd but the engine is strong the only draw back is that it is has the VE pump. Just wondering what you would do? Would you build this engine and what would you do to it if you would? Or would you sell this motor and try to find one with an inline pump on it and what would you do to it. Eventually will be in a pulling truck but don't know what year but looking for 7-800 HP. Thanks in advance
I would fressen her up, rebuild her from valve covers to oil pan. Fire ring the head an port it. Buy a 98 cam and add a nice turbo and an intercooler, and Get KTA rotor for the pump or a ppump It's really up to u and your wallet. All that has made me ready to Loc the 91.
Sell it on E-bay and buy a p-pump engine. 7-800 hp means calling Piers Diesel or Schieds...one of the big players in high HP Cummins, anyway. There's lots of $$$ to be spent if you want a reliable (from pull to pull) 800 hp.
BTW, welcome to DTR

just keep it: turn up pump, fuel pin, 3200 rpm gsk, 12 cm turbo housing, htt stage 4 compressor and wheel, bhaf, 4 inch exhaust and downpipe, EDM injectors, later put on ATS manifold, port and polish heads and valves, and big camshaft, maybe water methanol and propane

For that kind of HP I would p-pump your current motor or buy a complete p-pump engine and then call a reputable diesel performance company to make that kind of power.
