Pulled again last night.....

She held together for 2 more hooks. Matt pulled the 7500 class. Ended up winning with 307'2".

Here is 2nd, 306' and some inches. It was close.

Then I pulled the 8500 class and powered out at 290'1". Was enough to get 1st though.

This guy got 2nd in the heavy class too, ended up 274'.

And this is 3rd place in the 8500, ripped the u-joint off from the yoke.

Maybe, hopefully, maybe, we will have the big sticks by next weekend.

Nice hooks, I like how you "Hemi" smokes! Hope the 2ng gen didn't have too much damage.
BTW when you are getting ready to start what is the preferd method of getting going? Side step the clutch or ease into it? Asking because we are going to try and start pullin out here AZ way. There isn't a compatition here anywhere and me and a few guys want to give it a go, I know a guy with a sled that they use with tractors only and he said we maybe able to use it for our truck if we can generate enough intress.

93flatbed, you definatley do not want to dump the clutch. Could be spendy. Just ease it out. With a stock clutch you can't really slip it, or it will never grab. Gearing, tires, and power determine what gear to try. What ratio? 3.55, 4.10? It's a getrag?

Andrew, yeah I think it is. It was overvalved. Loped quite a bit at idle. From Omaha, IIRC.

Rag, 3.54, 35" mud. Have 33" in shed(could go to them if need be)
Got clutch, fuel, and Air.
Don't think I got enough of a deep gear or RPM, but why not give it a go?
I've been reading a good amount on this subject and I've just never heard anyone talking about getting it going. Some of the vidoe's I see It sure looks like guys are winding it up and going side step. I would of never thought it should be done that way, but like I said It looks that way.
I've been reading lots are in Hi 2nd. I saw your thread about the ford t-case and where you broke your outters. I'm trying to learn through others doing it. I guess I won't know anything till I try it. But any and all advice is sure appreciated.

Why would you need a spare truck you have your truck j/k .

your truck is still a poser 4x4 isn't it? gotta get that driveshaft fixed so you can do the drags at the buck

What clutch do you have?

I would try it with the 35's in 1st 4hi. You are gonna want traction bars though. 2nd in 4lo is a little slower. If it is a light sled and you have the clutch and power, might be able to pull off 3rd 4lo with the 33's or maybe 31's. That's a pretty steep gear, but if you can get it going, look out.

On the take off thing, think about it this way. It is hard to avoid spinning the tires a little with a stick shift. When you let the clutch out, either they spin a little, untill you start moving ahead or the motor pulls way down. Once they start to spin, it puts way less resistance on the clutch and it bites, and the wheels speed up. Watch a pull on a wet track, it will be even more pronounced. Also with a dual disk(or bigger), you are gonna see it more. Since they grab harder and usually starting off at high rpm and a tall gear.

Let me now say I'm sorry for the hijack of your kick butt pulling thread And sorry for the stuip questions.

Well now that I'm reading everyone's sigs I may not have enough clutch, I anit got a Double Disk. 3400#Kevlar is all it got, But I think It would be enough, well maybe, IDK is a double disk a must have? Also how about lighting the turbo, I'm thinking that with the VGT I would have a little advantage start with the housing short and start moving it up, but I've never pulled anything so I don't know how it will react to weight. But once again I guess I'll have to try it.

Is it possible to make a shift while runnin down the track? My brain says no way, but I swear looking at videos that some guys are doing it.

No a DD is not nessasary but highly reccomended, I'm using captains old single disc and it has been working flawlessly all year

Yes it is possible to make a shift while pulling but it is very risky, if you don't catch it right you run will be done or you could have some carnage. I tryed it with sucess once this year and laid down my best run of the year so far

Here a video of my run when I grabbed 2nd

I think around here, the truck pull rules won't allow you to shift your truck while pulling if you have a manual. I guess your rules let you?

You may not need a dual disk, yet...... The single disk I had would have probably held, with the final I have now. It would not hold 3rd 4lo with the NP205/ 3.55's. The south bend will, but the motor can't pull it. So really it didn't help there. The main thing is they are going to last longer. If you slip yours to get the sled rolling, it won't last long. Also it might get too hot and stop grabbing.

I say you just pull what you got, to try it.

What turbo do you have? 351?

If you are gonna try shifting, do it right away when you get rolling. Keep in mind Pulltilbroke has a NV4500, gutbags might be a little slow shifting. I would definately take it all the way against the governor before you try. Might be able to go from 1st to 2nd.
