Propane? Thoughts?

I've heard quite a few different stories of how well Propane injection runs with a VE powered truck and have become curious. I've already tried water meth before and it did run better with that but I'm curious about the propane stories I have heard. I know I can get a full kit for $200-$400 and was wondering what other experiences people have had with propane on a VE powered truck? I've heard anywhere from 100hp gain to 3 to 7mpg mileage gain, a much cleaner burn, and even a more quiet engine? Only heard some bad from the regulators going bad and the motor can go bye bye in a hurry? Any thoughts on propane are welcome

Cylinder pressures and timing are increased. Low boost level applications on a mild truck are a benifet for fuel economy, but if you factor in propane price and hassel of finding a place to fill the tank in your truck its a loss. Injecting at already high boost levels/cylinder pressures it will effectively increase timing even more. For you application I don't see it being a good idea for you. Plus EGT's rise some from what I've read.

I've seen pistons melt down when using propane a reputable high performance shop installed into a test truck. They tried to get engine replaced under warranty, after they removed propane tank and lines. They even replaced intake so I wouldn't see propane fitting tapped into intake. They towed vehicle out of shop the next day.

They did have to pay me for check out time after I showed them melted piston. I don't like liars especially when they are trying to scam me. They had told me truck was stock, I showed him his web page with pictures of his truck and modifications that were done to it. He didn't say much after that other then I will tow my truck out tomorrow. Multi million dollar company that is world known, go figure.

To be honest I over look many power add on things at work as long as the owner is nice and understands it can go both ways. If you come in demanding I fix your truck you broke under warranty for free and do it quick then that doesn't get very far. There are things I can't look past though. So many things can be traced now threw programming.

My biggest thing is lift kits, I charge the customer for what they did to the truck that will take extra time for me to work on it under warranty. Most are just fine with it, others not so much. I believe most people do not understand how a technician is paid and figure its all just hourly rates. I don't mind loosing time every once in a while for a nice guy who's truck broke. But a Dbag I refuse to loose time, they can tow their pile out.

Yeah, people are kinda dumb about stuff like that.

I told a friend to put nitrous to a truck. He said no, it'll melt pistons, use propane, it won't. I kinda "OK, whatever", and will laugh when he melts one.

Propane on a semi stock rig sure, but an over fueled rig not so much. In 2002-2003 I dynoed with it and only gained 17hp and 40ft pounds of torque. Propane is a fuel so adding more to the mix you better have the air to burn it. Blew my head gasket because of it, but I did get 26mpg on the freeway in a 4x4.

Now dont get me wrong dont think I havent contemplated putting it back on there just to go after the top numbers. I will never say never, but I dont think I would ever consider using it again.

Just out of curiosidness, how are you folks figuring the extremely high mileage? Do you include the propane used in the calculation?

Hey dont knock if it you havent tried it Jimbo. I still have my old Bully Dog kit so you never know what might happen if I need to gain a few horses.

Propane, nitrous, and water meth sounds kind of fun doesnt it?

The problem with most of our trucks is a lack of O2, not a lack of fuel. Propane could work well if you dry inject nitrous with it to give it the O2 it needs to burn.

No Limit Diesel Performance in 06 ran a 10 quarter in a Duramax. They ran nitrous and propane. So it has been done before.
