Problem with post?
Looky here, folks,
As I told the OP with a PM, I don't care if you post a picture, but no information. If you want to show off a truck that you think looks good, I'm all about it.
However, as soon as anyone says 'is it for sale', 'it's on CL', 'they only want $xxx for it', I'm gonna lock it and delete it.
If I have a problem with a bunch of posts that I have to lock and delete for this reason and you know better, I'm going to give you a vacation. You may want to carefully read the forum rules just to make sure you're brushed up on them.
I'm not trying to come in here swinging the banhammer or anything, please just follow the rules.

What doesn't make sense to me is if i can't say "Go to craigslist and type in blah blah" , then every sentence where someone says "I bought this part from PDR diesel" or mention of any other site that is not an advertiser on DTR (Which happens hundreds of times a day where someone asks another member where they bought something and they tell them in open thread).
The Advertisers on DTR are paying for direct advertising in my opinion, Like a huge colorful banner at the top which is much much different than a link to their site which obviously super easy to do and isn't nearly as broad as a colorful flashy banner that attracts attention. I'm sure that "Industrial Injection" would not pay Jacksquat to have a single link copy and pasted to a post on here as you are inclined to click on it instead of just "seeing it" like a banner
Is it against rules to post a link to an Offsite that is not advertising on DTR, that let's say sells Fuel shutoff solenoids for $10 on vwparts.com? If that's allowed why are CL ads not?

Yea I guess you are right sure sounds like exactly the same thing to me. Is it ok to post wtb ads in any forum other thn the classifieds? like if I wanted to buy a lugnut for my truck would I need to post that in the classifieds or can I put it in the first gen section?
Just to make sure I am being understood I am not trying to be a jerk at all I am confused and I really dont understand what we can and cannot do. I read the rules and I am still lost. I know it is hard to tell someones intent or emotion through a typed message so I just wanted to be clear. Causing a ruckus is not my intent here.
What is the difference in saying "where can i get a grille for my truck?" and getting a replie "I got one at Rock auto for 100 bucks". That happens all the time. If i ask where can i find a 1st gen and someone replies Cl, is that any different. Or is Rock Auto, Genos, LMC, Jc whitney all sponsers? I am confused as well because these others are mentioned all the time.
Ok, fellas, I'll try to clear it up.
When someone asks "Where can I get this?" and you provide a link, you are not advertising, you are providing an answer.
We don't want craigslist on the site. Not only is it advertising, but if we let one person put it up for the right reasons (good find and trying to help someone out) there will be 100 people that try to sell their crap, and say it's not theirs.
Put yourself in an advertisers shoes... you're trying to sell a product that is your lively hood. You find a thread that is specifically about someone trying to sell something cheaper than what you have because it is used, but they are not paying any advertising fee. Seem fair?
We don't want the forum to turn into a flea market, either, with every other post being about something for sale.
Bottom line: No CL/E-bay/ads whatsoever. It is the DTR's policy, I doubt it's going to change. The only time that we leave this stuff alone is if someone asks a question about a specific part, and you point them to it, no biggie. It does not have to be a sponsor or in the DTR store. However, if you sell gauges on the side, and every time someone asks a question about gauges you post a link for your stuff... not gonna work.
WTB stuff: Strictly in the classifieds. You can post it in the wanted section and in that specific truck's thread INSIDE the classifieds.
If I missed something, ask.

And another thing...
A lot of times I have to move a thread about 'For Sale' or 'Need this, WTB', and I really want to leave it up.. I can see how it can be benifitial for the DTR's members. However, I have also seen people use the classifieds and the forum to be crooks, and take advantage of other members, and spammers that seem legit at first. This is a big reason, too.
It keeps the drama down, and keeps the site about trucks. (mostly...

Ok so now I have another question. If you were to post a question asking where to get a lugnut for your truck. I can answer, get them at rock auto. However I cannot say there is a guy selling them on cl. I used rock auto as an example cause I do not belive that they advertise on DTR.
Here's my take on the CL and ebay links.
Say a person is looking for a truck. Doesn't it stand to reason that he or she would already be looking at CL and ebay? There's really no point in posting this stuff, the people who are looking for it will find it without your help.

If someone is looking for something specific, and you post a link to a vendor that caries them, then you're cool.
I personally will not edit a link to CL that is an answer to someone's question.
It has to be specific and related.
Ya know, check out my next three posts...
