If you look up the PCM on Rockauto it lists all the part numbers for your vehicle.

The dealer should be able to pick the right one with your VIN no?

Question, what does the PCM control? Does it control the speedo?

No, it does not , but it does feed power to to the sensor on the transmission that the speedo uses to sense speed.

If the truck and the original PCM are still operational, the factory scan tool is capable of reading and displaying the part number. No idea whether aftermarket scan tools can do it.

According to Rockauto's site, Their part# is STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # EM10804, which replaces all of these OE part #'s 56006024, 56027082, 56027571, 56028082. These are all for the standard trans. Apparently, they have them in stock too...Mark

While they are listed, whenever you go to checkout it gives you a "this product is discontinued" error and they remove it from your cart. I have been looking for a new PCM for my '92 for some time now.

Good info...thanks for letting us know. Glad I have a spare original unit then.

Question

This morning my grid heaters kicked in several times at about 40* F after I had driven more than 100 miles. Clearly this is not supposed to be happening and my guess is my Powertrain Control Module has a gremlin.

The Mopar new part number for a PCM to fit a 1993 automatic was originally 5602 6861, and later the Mopar remanufactured part number was R4746 568. Both numbers are now discontinued and the Mopar computers show no dealer in the US as holding either unit.

I've been recommended two separate shops, both in Florida, that remanufacture PCMs. (Rock Auto carries reman units from Cardone, a brand I would prefer to avoid.) The going charge for a core seems to run from $65 to $125. If possible, I would like to keep my current PCM as a spare -- if anyone happens to have a junk PCM that he/she could sell me to use as a core, please PM me.

TIA.

I would suspect that it's actually your Air intake Temperature Sensor is going out. If it sends a false signal to the PCM, then the PCM will fire up the grid heaters.

I was having this same issue with my KSB. Turned out the AITS was shot.

This has been what I've found from a bunch of places I've tried. The only place that had one was a junkyard and I don't really feel like taking a chance on a 20 year old used PCM. I've just bypassed the grid heaters, added an external voltage regulator, manual OD switch, and learned to live with no CC.

Thanks. I'll try it; an AITS is less expensive than a PCM. Note the new Mopar part number for the AITS is 5003674AA and the list price is $70.75 plus tax (they are still available). I found your recent thread on the AITS and I expect I'll try to find the same aftermarket unit you used .

The two places I found in Florida apparently rebuild PCMs in-house and then guarantee them for life. Hopefully these rebuilds will be more reliable than a used one from a junkyard.
