Start tweatkin the pump. there is good info for that in the the tech facts section of this site. 190s would be good injectors for towing. PODs are a good bang for your buck injector, but they are not as clean buring as the 190, but PODS do have mroe power potental if you dont mind a some smoke. I would start with the pump tweaks, then some injectors if you are still lookin for some more power.

PODS are Lucas Prince of Darkness injectors. If you want to know where to get them PM me and I'll give up my source. I'm unsure if he ships to Canada.

HP Numbers

Hey Manganos:

What Hp numbers are you seeing with your setup?

I'm in the same boat as Pat; after reading, checking and sending some pms to members on this site and TDR, it appears there is only one true and tried way to wake up these beasts.

I'm waiting for Grey Hound to call with my shipment as well. I've ordered the Isspro gauges, HX35 turbo with a 16cm housing, 3200 GSK, Borgeson shaft, PODs, AFE Air intake setup..........I think most everyone running a 1st gen is utilizing this set-up. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it. Shied away from the fuel pin might try to modify that puppy myself.

Buying the DTT stuff to beef up the 518.

Maybe its just me, but I didn't see the 3200 gov. spring mentioned.

Here's 2 dyno plots overlayed with and without the 3200 gov. sping. Made a huge difference towing our gooseneck.

I'd recommend sticking with 190's for a tow rig. The POD's are fuel pigs, plus the EGT problems from the POD's require a lot more timing advance than I'd like to see on a working truck. The 190's are a much more efficient injector. POD's are for play trucks.

Question Aaaaahhhh

Wannadiesel............... now you've ruined it. Here I thought I was making the right decision by ordering the POD injectors!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I screw up?????

The truck will be towing but not all of the time and when it's towing it is usually a single car hauler.

Turbo is in

OK the turbo is in 16c the old one was 18.5. Took it for a quick test drive, seems like it is a little quicker out of the hole. Boost goes quick to about 12 and then climbs to around 18, no load just empty truck.
Still can't get the tack to work??? Now that is done What is next???
Should I order the 190's????

Grind the AFC lever inside the pump when you put in the 3200 spring. and bump the timing a little. You'll see 25-30lbs of boost. good luck and keep asking questions

before i got the injector i think i would make some adjustments to the fuel screw and the afc because that is free. Then if more power is still wanted i would order the 190

Fuel economy will be down a little, but it will pull fine. Just keep the pump settings conservative to keep the EGT under control.

Since you're working it regularly, ignore Michael's comment about grinding the AFC lever. Makes 'em run too toasty (and smoky) on the bottom end with a load.

Right. Keep the EGT under 1200 while working the hill, and keep the engine wound up (over 2000 RPM) by downshifting if needed. RPM is your friend, especially with an automatic. The torque converter dumps less heat into the ATF at high RPM due to less slippage. High trans temps drive up the coolant temp because of the heat exchanger. At high RPM EGT's are lower due to more airflow and less load. More RPM is a good thing all the way around.
