Mike, is the 40hp number on a modified truck or a stock truck with the cone at its stock setting? In other words, can you give an idea of what a modified truck would see as far as added hp with the pin?

I think I read on the TDR that hp number was on a stock truck.

I wouldn't expect any mileage improvement.

Biggest problem I found is it appears that the pin is slightly longer than stock...
The mark on the face of my pin didn't get down to the bottom of the pin until I 'honed' the inside of the cap so the diaphragm would come up higher.

Now I'm ~ right on the end of the sloped face at the very bottom. I noticed that even with the power screw turned in, the idle dropped. Guess it's due to less fuel - which was my original aim.

Now the mark goes from the thinnest to the deepest part of the pin.
We'll see how that affects driveability and mileage next month after I get the new trans installed.

VE Injector Pump and Old Smokey's fuel pin

Paul
I know this is an old post, but I never did see an answer to Paul's question. Has anyone had enough experience to answer this?

Thanks for any information...

I don't even think he makes these pins anymore.

DennyT and M&H have pretty much taken over the fuel pin market due to HARD HARD metal and a deeeeper ramp for more power.

The site appears to be active and open to taking orders...

Do you know if this approach (the fuel pin modification) affects the Bosch VE injector pumps adversely by dropping their pressure too much?

Talk about digin' up bones! This post goes back a long way. I still have that pin as my back-up spare. As you can see in my sig I am now running DennyTs pin and it does improve on Mikes pin. Right now my mileage still goes between 19.5 and 22.5 mpg depending on where and how I drive. With W/M I can count on excellant acceleration when I need it. I do need to move more air but want to keep my exhaust brake so that will limit my options. At any rate he old girl gets me where I want to go and in a hurry if need be.

BTW the Old Smoky pin is an excellant product as is DennyTs. It just depends on how you plan to configure your 1st gen.
