o/d switch

Does someone know the procedure for wiring a switch to lock the old girl into overdrive at whatever speed I want to. I need this for the drag strip. cant seem to be able to clock the tps enough to get it into overdrive at a low enough speed when at wot. and can this be used in conjunction with the tps.

Thank's in advance
Tim

Yes. People have done this.

You need a 5k linear potentiometer. Available from Radio Shack for a couple bucks. This replaces the TPS and you can "dial in" your shift point for O/D. As for which wire goes where...I guess I'm not sure. I haven't done it yet, but I plan to. Maybe a little searching on here will yield the answer.

I suppose you could wire it so you can use your TPS as well. You'ld have to have some crazy triple pole single throw switch. But why? From everything I hear the the dash pot is so much nicer. And you get to bypass the super-undependable TPS that's so expensive to replace. And you can change your shift point on the fly depending on your conditions.

To wire a "mystery switch": Locate the OD solenoid on the trans. Two wires go to it, one is blue, the other is orange with a green stripe. You want to tap into the orange/green wire and run through a switch to ground. If the switch is off, the trans will work as normal. If the switch is on, you will energize the OD solenoid and you will get OD if you are in third.
