NV4500 with 1st gen bellhousing

I've heard from a few people that you can swap in a NV4500 in to a first gen bellhousing. Anyone know anything about this......

Supposedly all you have to do is drill and tap new holes for the tranny to bolt up to the bellhousing and take about 1" off the input shaft so the tranny snugs up against the bellhousing.

Anymore info on this would be apprciated........

I've never heard about that, what I know and i've researched quite abit is that I think its www.drivetrain.com, or somebody makes an adaptor bellhousing that bolts to the 1st gen adaptor plate and to the nv4500. you can the keep your 1st gen startor and slave cylinder.

I've never heard of what you said I think I would rather just buy the conversion bellhousing. If you go and cut an inch off the input shaft how's the end of the shaft going to be supported? there won't be much to ride in the pilot bushing.

All that ain't worth the effort.
It's better to just get the bellhousing and starter.

Been there, done that

You don't cut the input shaft, you use a 1 inch spacer between the bellhousing and tranny. It does require redrilling the holes to bolt the tranny to the bellhousing.

I have a friend locally here that has done a few that way.

That may be possible, but I payed $165 for the adapter plate for the bellhousing, than bought the 94 and newer starter. It takes the same adapter for an NV4500 and a 6 speed. I know, I did both updates.

Frostie, did you have to use the newer slave cylinder also?
