No start

Ok, I have been down in Mexico for almost a month now and the house is going up fast and the rig has been working beautifully, until today. I came into Hermosillo from Kino Bay, about 60 Miles, no problems. I shut her down while I waited for a parking space. When I went to start her up again, she cranked fine, but wouldn't fire. I suspected the FSS and checked that there was 12 volts and there was. I figured that the FSS had imploded. I decided to crack an injector line to see if there was any diesel from the IP. My friend was watching while I cranked it. It spewed diesel all over the place and started right up. It has run fine since. It was the #2 injector, if that matters. Any thoughts? What could have been preventing start up that was fixed by cracking open the #2 injector? I am easily confused, so this has me all gummed up, any help is greatly appreciated...Mark

Loose connection on the fss? Maybe you jostled it enough to make contact again.

I agree with 12 Smoke. Before I removed my fss my truck would do this from time to time "aggravating". Then one day it would not start and the fss had come apart. Maybe its time to go manual!!

Vaporizing fuel due to high temperatures. AKA, vapor lock.

If it only does it when the engine is hot try dumping a bucket of water on the ip to cool it off. One sign of a weak pump is that it won't restart when it is hot. I would check over the wiring for the fss also. Maybe carry a small jumper wire and next time it does it run the jumper wire from the positive battery terminal to the post on the fss and see if it will start.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I hope to go home sometime in the next week. I hesitate to try anything major here because I have limited tools and veeeery limited parts resources, in case something goes south. I am leaning towards the fss being iffy, because this rig has lived its whole life in the Godawful heat around here without any heat related problems. I hope the IP isn't failing because it really does not have many miles on it. It seems to be doing OK. but it is taking 2-3 revolutions to start, which is 1.5-2.5 more than normal. The good news is once I start heading north, I don't have to turn it off until I get home, unless some border guy thinks I am toting drugs. That is not likely because I have a Global Entry/Sentri trusted traveler card that gets me through the border in about 10 seconds. Not having to stop is a big advantage, allowed by my 130 gallons of diesel fuel. I really need her to be working right because I am the main hauler of rebar, blocks, bricks and anything else that will fit, because it saves me muchos pesos if I don't have to pay for hauling from Hermosillo...Mark
