No power above 1200 RPM
Yesterday we took the truck out shopping. We got about 10 blocks when it started losing power. It would idle fine but try to go above 1200 RPM and it just won't go. It's almost like the governor is limiting it. There is no boost and no smoke so it seems like a lack of fuel. We limped home and parked it in the driveway and took the car.
I haven't looked into it yet but I'm hoping it's something simple like a clogged fuel filter and not the new fuel pump I just put on. I doubt if it's a rubber line at the tank because they were all replaced last year. Possibly it's the line at the pump because it's older but still looks in good shape. I guess a broken spring in the fuel pump could cause this but I'll swap the filter first.
Stay tuned!

Well, I swapped out the fuel filter and the truck seems to run OK. I dumped the fuel in the filter into a glass jar to see what settles out. Before I pulled the filter I opened the water drain in the bottom and only got a few drops out. IIRC there should be a good stream even when the engine is off.
Hopefully I got all the crud that's in the tank. If not I'll be doing this again.

I made the mistake of running a tank full of biodiesel thru mine several years back. It cleaned out the insides of the tank and fuel system at the expense of several fuel filters. I have been told Sea Foam does the same thing. I run that thru all my gas engines but not the diesels.

The one and only time I bought fuel in Devil's Lake, ND it took 2 filters, and a quart of 2 cycle oil to get things running smoothly again. Don't know what was in the fuel, but it wouldn't run worth a dang. Seemed to plug filters and stick injectors. I'll never buy fuel on an Indian reservation again.
One of the worst bad fuel scenarios I've seen was when a friend who lived in the wilderness decided to put gasoline in a used barrel that had polyurethane in it. When he put some in his chain saw, it ran for a few minutes, then lost all compression.
The rings were glued tight into the piston.
