Truck is 92 cumming. sat for 4 yrs. Has been running for the last few months strong. oil light came on thought it was a sensor . drove it home 50 miles. ( dumb) change the sensor still no pressure change to a different gauge. got 2lbs out of it. took the sensor out started truck oil was heavy drizzle came out. pulled the filter and the housing started the truck for a few seconds no oil came out. so it seems like i ran the motor with no oil pressure for 50 miles. **** cut open the filter to look for metal. no-then. but there was in the oil in filter brass looking things. shave's) and metal. micro size... Could that be from pump or did i just cook my engine. please advise.. Howard
Just got done pulled the pump looks good. nothen in the pick up>> pulled the oil filter and the housing check the pressure valve it not stuck. anything else will stop the oil flow.. only metal micros is in the filter oil. the oil was clean when it was drained. no metal on the magnetic drain bolt...

I wouldn't pull it just yet, I'd do an in-frame inspection. You said the shavings were copper/brass coloured, so there's petty much no doubt your bearings are toast. Unless you have a beaver in your engine who has a penchant for brass fittings/banjo bolts.
As Wannadiesel said, your crank might be fine. Better to find out if it is before you go and pull the block out, because if it's good you can roll new bearings in with it still in place. Bearings are consumable, they're there to protect the crank because the crank is the biggest, heaviest, most expensive, (single) chunk o' metal in your engine. As such, it's their job to wear as they did. Here's hoping they didn't weld themselves to the crank. Good luck Howardfire70, sorry you hurt your truck.

I did stop hopefully before the damage is done.. Motor still runs with missing a beet.. Im still puzzled why the oil lose. as I go in deeper . I'm sure it will revile. Thanks for the input. I'll let you know what I find. Thank you Howard
you must just have a blockage somewhere. but unfortunately it doesn't take long for the bearings to run dry and wear quickly. maybe try pulling the plugs from other ports in the main oil rifle and see if you have ample pressure there.

I never built a diesel . Hade done plenty of chevy motors. I would attempt to to rods in main with a gas motor with out pulling it. but I hear from a lot of diesel guys that they do it in frame. but its in the big trucks...

I did not have a mec. gauge the factory went to 0 and the light came o change sensor still no- then. then aftermarket elec one and it was about 2 lbs.
then I pulled the sensor off left open hole in the motor started iy up took a few seconds and oil came out like a heavy drizzle. I would imagine it should have shot oil ever were. ???

. Although while you're there I guess... Heck, you might as well call Mahle and replace the pistons too!
