no gas gauge

So no working gauge on a friend's 91. Did the grounding thing on 2nd wire at the tank plug and gauge went full. Pulled pickup and tried every combo of test I could think of with sender but no movement. $90 sender coming with fingers crossed. Any other ideas? Nothing in sticky.

I think the reason you don't have a gas gauge is because your truck uses DIESEL !!!!

DUH !!!

lol.....

Bustin on ya !

I've replaced every fuel sender in every CTD I've owned, and it always does the trick. Something about being immersed in fuel for 20+ years.

To put your mind at ease,

BEFORE you put the tank back in, do what I did.

Connect the fuel sender to the harness, and have someone turn the key to ignition, but not start it. While they sit their butt in the seat, manually lift the float, and ask them to tell you if the gauge works.

I wanted to be 100% sure I wasn't going to have to pull the tank back down again, so my wife took a few minutes away from eating bon bons, and watching TV to read the gauge for me.

Fill the tank with at least 5 gallons of fuel, and it started right up. Went to the fuel station and filled her up. Beautiful since then.

BTW,

The fuel filler neck seal costs me about $8.00 when I did mine last. The OE one tore as I dropped the tank. Nice new one in there from Dodge when I did the seal..

So...after connecting new sender...nada. Spent another hour or so troubleshooting before I saw ANY sign of activity. Turned out to be bad connections in plug. Female side connectors had ovalized. Tightened them up and voila! $100 lesson😣

A FSM on CD rom is pretty cheap. ($35) Diagnostic procedures for just about everything are in it.

The reality is that it's still a 20+ year old fuel sender. Glad you figured it out.
