Newbie here w/ a few ?'s

Hi all, ive been reading for a few days since I bought the truck and so far between the stickies and searches a wealth of knowledge is definitely contained in this site. I bought a 90 W-250. The truck seems to run like a champ. Heres what ive got, rebuilt cummins, injection pump, rebuilt 727 (several years ago) new a/c system and radiator also has a hydraulic lift gate she aint much to look at but hey it runs and can do the job a 40k truck can do. Im in for 2 grand which I thought was good, I have receipts for everything but the engine itself (long story). So howd I do? My questions are my truck has 35's on it but I cant see anything that proves a lift kit, is it possible to fit these w/o a lift? They did scrub a little so they beat the back of the front fender back a inch or 2. My other ? My speedometer/odometer does not work and I cant find a cable or electric wire for this. I crawled underneath and almost feel like im missing half a wiring harness for the trans/transfer case. On the tailshaft theres a 2 prong sensor (im going to assume is for the speedometer? maybe like a gear reduction?)Either way my wiring is gone or misplaced and or cable...im confused. then on top of the transfer case is another sensor maybe 2 prong which im guessing is why my 4wd drive light doesnt work? and when a 3 prong sensor on the side of the transmission (neutral safety switch)? but truck starts fine w/ nothing hooked to it? I have no clue.... Any ideas on what im missing and where to look? lol. I cant wait to get this truck back into shape so I can start playing w/ the IP and blowing some black smoke. Thanks for all your help in advance, -Josh

First of all welcome to the site and sounds like a good deal to me on the truck.

The truck could have lift springs or add-a-leafs that would give it about 2" of lift which would clear the 35's.

As far as information, I think you have came to the right place and I am sure that others will jump in shortly and help you out with your other questions.

The VSS should be mounted on the transfer case, it would have 2 wires. Sounds like the wiring is hacked pretty good, but for $2k I think you did great.

Does it start in Drive or Reverse?

If the front spring are bent over backwards it's stock height. If the fenders are massage a little already then it's probably stock. I clear 36's with stock height, I just had to trim. $2000 is a good price. The engine can fetch that in the right condition.

Ok, heres what I learned today, the springs are bent backwards so im going to assume stock height. Secondly, the truck will start in drive. So my question is where do I start looking for the rest if my wiring at? lol. This sucks I never thought I would buy a vehicle missing wiring but still running! Anyways I hope yall can help me b/c I cant even see where anything is cut or anything. I have a feeling this happened when the engine was out if that helps any, oh and I cant find the wiring for my washer pump either.....lol Thanks everyone for their comments so far! -Josh

Wow I think you have more of a wiring basket case than me. Try to find some wiring diagrams somewhere and then just run new wires. Don't get discouraged, the way the cummins runs makes up for the shortcomings that surround it. These trucks grow on you and you'll learn your way around it in no time. One good thing is that when you have done a ton of work on one you'll know right where to go if something fails later.

Ok I found a 91 ctd schematic on here the best I could tell I looks as if all the piece of harness missing may connect to a connector on the back of the engine? Anyone have a better knowledge of where to look for a the plug in at?

That connector has other stuff in it as well, I doubt it's unplugged. If you're lucky the wiring is wrapped around something and tucked out of sight. Or they just hacked it off.

pics ...

Hey everyone here w/ updates, I found the windsheild washer plug. I also found a harness w/ nothing plugged to it. here are some pics, colors best I could tell:

Black / white stripe
White / orange stripe
Black / purple stripe
Brown / yellow stripe
Light green
White
Heavier gauge Black
Heavier gauge Blue

Does anyone have a book to see if these are the colors to go to the t-case, trans, speedo. If anyone can break them down for me Ill just pigtail, if I cant find a harness in the junkyard.
