Just finished my headache rack, made it out of 3/16" 2x2 tubing. Painted it with Rustoleum Hammered metallic black. I built it cause I put my canoe in my truck and rested it on the roof, and going down a dirt road to my favorite fishin' spot, it dented the tar out of my roof. so here it is.

I'm doing the same thing with the canoe on my truck.... Bought what did that run for you in materials? That thing looks EXACTLY like what I want to do but without the expanded metal.

IT ran me probably $150 in materials, I used most of one 20' stick of 2x2, and 10' of the 1/2 x 1/2. The 1 3/4 tubing I already had. And theres no expanded metal on it, just the two horizontal cross pieces on each side. The reason it cost so much is because I used 3/16 thick tubing. You could probably cut that in half by using 14 ga or even 1/8".

DodgeMonkey the 3/16'' is good 1/4'' better. Hope you never run into a situation like I had about 20 years ago. Rolled a 3/4 ton Ford 4x4 overloaded broke a housing. The 3/16'' 2x2 headache rack with alot of bracing kept the cab from crushing me, it bent, warped, bowed, but never give up. The backglass didn't break everything else did, no sheet iron was usable. Somewhere I guess safety over weight and money is worth it. Yours looks good and should keep ya safe.
