new first gen owner!

hey guys,

my names nick, currently i live up in alfred, new york, where im attending college for their truck and diesel program. now about the truck, my first diesel was a 1996 gmc 6.5, which i still have, but im waiting on a rebuild kit and new turbo, last week i bought a 1992 power ram 250 cummins. miles are unknown but the last owner (origional owner) figured them to be about 120ish. so far i have not done much to her, i got the air bag suspension working again and there should be a new power steering pump waiting for me in class tomorrow. next on the list is a 5 speed swap ASAP. the tranny was just rebuild but i cant stand automatics. i was a member on dieselplace and i hope this site is just as good. thanks guys!

Welcome and congrats on buying your new favorite truck. You won't believe what it's capable of.
There are lots of folks around here with great advice. Check the sticky at the top of the forum subjects in 1st gen and read up.

After the misery, heartache, and despair of electronic 6.5 liter ownership, you will love the Cummins.

Dieselplace is where I go for advice on my '95 Suburban. I think you'll find the same kind of solid technical help here.

yeah i hear yeah, my 6.5 was nothing but trouble, i bought it with 199k on it and it didn't run due to the fuel lines bein rotted from the tank to the motor, and the PMD had failed, i replaced both and she ran, but everything went down hill from there, its now got almost 224k on it, and the turbo is shredding itself from the inside out and feeding little pieces of metal into the motor, not to mention the piston rings are fried and theres at least one piston cracked

i can already tell im gonna love the cummins compared to my old 6.5

Welcome 92ctd -

If you like to work on trucks you may actually not like the Cummins... SINCE THEY NEVER STOP RUNNING! The only work you'll have to do is upgrades and farkles!

Seriously - I have belonged to a few diesel websites and this one is the most helpful (and interesting) bunch of guys around. There is some serious knowledge here and it's all FREE. No need to spend the money it costs to join the TDR.

ENJOY!

ps - there are some handy part numbers and "fixes" in my signature

92 CTD,

I am also currently attending the diesel/heavy equipment program at my local community college. I have learned so much about diesels and all the things that surround them. I have 2 quarters left and I graduate. l'm looking forward to returning back to school next week. This quarter should be open for some personal work on my 93' CTD.......with instructors approval

Awesome looking pickup! Keep us updated on your add-ons and progress to bombing the ol' 92.
