New CTD member w/Preventative Maintenance Questions
Hey everyone, I go Saturday to get my first CTD a 92 D250 auto. I'm coming from the Ford brand(I still love my Ford's so dont bash em please) so I hope you all will welcome me w/open arms.
The current owner is the original owner and has taken immaculate care of the truck, and I would like to carry on this tradition. Now I have read the posts about what to look for etc, but I would like to get a list of what all of you guys do preventative maintenance wise to make sure your trucks are as strong now as they were new. I know changing filters and stuff, but what other pointers would you guys have?
Thanks,
Josh

I have had very few repairs with mine just lube and oil brakes ,tires now the mods thats another story. but so far in over 250K 1 head gasket(my fault)1 water pump,1 starter 1 alt,1 a/c expantion valve.1 fan motor,3 fan switches,2 T stats 1 trans. valve body ($250),1 light switch and 1 steering collum(stupid friend broke off the tilt wheel mech.) this truck spent the first 10 years driving every day on 5 miles 1 direction of dirt road just to get to the black top and alot of days making 5to 6 trip .....this has been the best truck I have ever owned (ford chevy nissan toyota).
PS 4 steering shaft joints, thats the one big problem i have seen on my rig but i got it licked now
make sure on your PM that you check to see your getting full throttle keep the linkage adjusted a lot of people think there truck are low on power and will be, if you dont check it valve adj. fuel lines give it a good looking over

Josh, are you into computers and do you have either OpenOfficeCalc or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet programs?
I keep track of my maintenance in the computer. I've entered all the regular maintenance items for and schedule for my 92 into the spreadsheet, and keep track of things there. I also log all the odd repairs to the truck there, like the headliner replacement I had to do recently.
If you have one of these programs, I'll email you my files and you can see four years of 1992 D250 work done.
Regards, DBF
