need answer fast!! 2x4 convert to 4x4!!!
 

my dad is looking at buying a 93 dodge 2500 2x4 truck. its an extended cab long box automatic with OD. now he currently has a 90 reg cab long box 4x4 with 5 speed manual.

now he wants to take the front axle and tranny out of the 4x4 and put them into the 2x4. now he is wondering is there holes in the front to mount this stuff up?? especially for the front axle.

if someone has done this or has info it would be greatly appreciated!!! and quick!!

Since you already have a 4x4 truck make a template of where the suspension bolts up on it and transfer it over to the 2wd truck then bolting up will be easy. Just make sure the gear ratio is the same on the front axle as the rear one.

Gotta drill and you gotta swap crossmembers, but it has been done before.

the worst part is drilling/cutting out all the old 2x4 suspension.. putting on the 4x4 is a lot easier..

Don't forget about the cab floor. The 2 wheel peel with auto has different floor hump than the 4X4. The 4X4 hump is bigger.

I've been looking at my 89 d350, the front of the frame looks like its ready to go for the spring hangers. However the rear holes are not there on my frame. Not sure of the shock mounting location?

You would be much better off, irregardless of price to buy the correct truck and be enjoying it, instead of laboring and expensing yourself to death for little things that pop up. In addition the title will be wrong if its ever challenged. It should be titled as rebuilt. Now I know there are 5,000 reasons you have now that it is a viable project. Just remember what was said here.

If it is a bargain, buy it, fix up a little and resell at profit. You will achieve the father son bonding and make a profit to afford what you want. JMHO

The best bet and the least amount of work is usually to get a good 4x4 and start from there.

with enough lift the front axle will fit under the 2wd crossmember there should be spring hangers for the front on the frame already. It's doable but quite a bit of work and probably a little more than the average guy should take on.

i ended up getting a 92 dodge ram 2500 extended cab 4x4 automatic for my dad locally for $4500 with like no rust. he is going to convert it to a manual by making his truck now a parts truck.
