Need 92 and 93 owners to verify a ground connection for me, please
Hey, all. Long time no chat. I hope all is well with all of you.
I'm in need of verification, on a two wire ground connection that mounts onto a bung on the intake manifold. It is the ground for our fuel heaters, and for other items. A couple months ago, in my hurried scamper to button my truck up before surgery, I feel maybe I missed reconnecting this ground. I've looked thru old photos of my intake plate, and have not seen that ground connection, but it states it clearly in my FSM, on page 11-20. I've called on MKnittle to verify, and on his 89, it clearly shows that connection on his plate. I'm wondering, probably from the previous owner and whoever he had work on his truck, maybe it got tucked up somewhere and that's why I've never had it in my old photos.
So, can you 1992, 1993 folks please do me a favor and just verify if you have this ground terminal on top of your intake plate?
The FSM mentions a malfunction of the fuel heater can cause/ lead to idle haze. I already know from others I've been PM'ing on my bad, bad haze issue I've got other, more complex issues to fix( thanks, guys. You know who you are), but if I can cross this ground wire issue off my list, so much the better.
Thanks, and if your checking for me in wet weather, a double thanks

All right then, guess I'll put my pups in, too.
They've been my buddies lately, keeping an eye on me on my physical therapy walks around my driveway.
The female to the left, is the hunter. There isn't a safe haven for the lizards around here if they're within 5' up a tree. She's got the hops, and those lizards are easy pickin's

Beautiful dogs.

Doodlebee, thanks for taking the time to check and post a pic. I almost replied that yes, you have that ground attached, but upon zooming in for closer look see, it was the wire wrap clamp I see, that attaches to the plate just to support the harness in place. That's your harness that goes from the KSB air temp switch to your KSB solenoid. It is held in place by one of the manifold plate bolts. I guess you don't have one, either?
I'm Wondering, if in our year trucks, maybe that ground got mounted elsewhere, and when Dodge put our years FSM's together, they just grabbed a generic pic from the earlier first gens FSM's, cause it falls in place with my FSM photo and MKnittle's pics.
Nice dog, too, BTW!

I have the terminal & bung on my 91.5, and my buddy a few miles away has it on his 92.
Why don't you run a dedicated ground (to the same spot to keep it looking stock) to see if that helps with idle haze?
Can't imagine it making a difference in warm weather though...
I went heater delete, and haven't noticed any difference in hazing if that helps, and the weather is below freezing here currently.

Ofelas, thanks for verifying and posting your findings.
My idle haze is bad, like really bad. More white in color. Like I mentioned earlier, I've bugged the poop out of others on here in diagnosing, that my thumbs are the size of corn dogs, with all the PM'ing and texting back and forth. Also been reading page by page thru the FSM, and searching the various forums for different diagnostics suggestions given to others, with similar problems to mine.
The final consensus with most was my timing was off, most likely the cause being that I was in a mad rush to button up the truck, and even with 3, slow and steady attempts at re installing the VE back, I may have messed up the timing. That was my first time ever in removing and replacing the VE, so me botching it up doesn't surprise me!
So in another month or so, when I'm not so stiff as a board, I'll retrace my steps and readjust the injection pump, and back off the power screw some. I've got a list built up of other items to finalize on, and this ground wire issue just got added to my list last night.
If, I can't find that loose ground wire tucked away somewhere, I'll take your suggestion and splice in a ground.
I've read a lot of folks doing away with the fuel heater, and attaching one of those fuel heater delete nipples. Other than the possibility of getting an annoying leak from the seal under that heater, which seems like the main issue to go heater delete, are there any other benefits to be had? Just curious on that

Ofelas, never mind on responding back on the fuel heater delete benefit thing; I saw at the bottom of the page a response of yours back on 92SmokingBlacks original tread, how it increased your fp by removal of the heater. Thanks, anyway
Yeah, those same folks that advised me on the items to look into, all have warned me to WAIT TILL IM HEALED! So, instead, I tease myself by letting the truck idle for around 20 minutes in the morning, mainly to keep the fluids a moving, but also so I can hear that cummins noise, and breath that haze.
At the end of this month, it will be 8 months since I've driven it. I know some of you understand why I'm getting ancy.
So, Ofelas, thanks to you, I've got a voltage regulator to look/study up on, along with an alternator. More to the list, LOL!
Thanks for the PM, btw
