My speedo is gone nuts but why????

My miles meter has quit and my trip meter. Have any of u had this problem? and my speedo goses nuts. I have replacled the unit in the trans mission with a new unit. Buy the way its a getrag 360. I belive its in the meter it self. Where would get parts for the baby and what would u look for? Maybe its all the miles 400,000 plus

Speedo going nuts - I had this when my voltage regulator started acting up. Speedo would read right... then hit zero ... then peg 100 ... then back... $12 from NAPA got me an external Volt Reg from a '91.

Odo / Trip not working ... I'm getting that too... it's just getting worn, I'm thinking of pulling the gage out and "greasing" it a bit. Right now, when it stops, I just schmuck the face of the gage with a stout flick, and *presto* it starts spinning again. I'm 420,000 ... so we're in the same league here.
I was thinking of replacing the gage, but I'd hate to lose all those miles....

well guys i haven't tried this but have been pointed to these sites in the past. when money frees up i plan to do this since i track mileage for my small business. from what i hear there are a few plastic gears in the odometer that get brittle and teeth crack off... i think it has more to do with age than miles. i have a 92 just about 120k and it's been babied like crazy. here are the links i hope it works and let me know if you try it.

I just finally found out that the little generator unit that attaches to the speedo drive off my transfer case was going bad. A new generator and everything is back to snuff.

Cool. I guess at 400k it doesn't owe you anything.
