My New truck

i just recently bought my 1991 W250 5-speed from a guy about 2 hrs away and im thrilled to death about it (only 18)The truck needs some work, but the drivetrain is rock solid(duh) mostly rust problems since it is a northen truck. im planning on restoring it to its original form before i start anything else. i believe i can get most of these parts easily but thats not the problem im running into. all the problems i seem to have are electrical. speedo is broke along with the odometer i took the dash apart and looked around brought the panel inside and looked through it all the gears are together and are put in correctly, but i think it may be related to my other problem.. when driving it back that night i noticed that all of the lights in the istrument panel are not on... the directional lights along with my high beam lights work but everything else is dead. another thing is that the atni-lock light is on i havnt reeally looked into this problem yet (not enough time in a day after work) but i figured while im on here id ask what would cause this. please help!

Welcome! 1st Gen's are great for us young guys (I am 19)!

Go up to User CP and fill out your sig. Alos tell us if it has a intercooler or not. Makes a big difference.

wannadiesel is our guru on 1st gen. Go to the sticky at the top of the form and look through it. Might get some "ideas". We here are a "bad" influence.

I don't know if you have a mechanical speedo or not, but I am guessing electrical. Check the VSS (Variable Speed Sensor) on the back of the T-Case. Should have a reducer and a sensor with 2 wires. I would check there first. My gear reducer broke so I have the VSS directly connected to the t-case. Off by 2-3 mph at 60.

Welcome and this site is VERY addicting.

Jon

Ya...no speedo=no odo. The odometer works off the speedo, speedo off the odometer. Something to that affect...

Odometer is gear-driven off the speedometer. You can have speedometer without odometer.

it makes it nice when you got a low mileage truck and can keep it that way, , the best part about these trucks is that everything is so cheap, i got cash ready to go once i get the truck and there will be go fast parts.
