The shop package arrives Monday morning....so my guess is by next friday the structure will be up and done, then it's prep for the slab, and I checked the drawings and it calls for several inches of crush, then a couple inches of drain rock and then a layer of rigid insulation before the rebar and then finally concrete to top it all off.

Not to sound negative, but why in the world are the drains in the middle of the pathway between the new and old buildings? Or are they below grade, and you don't see them.

Those two sticking up are from when the house was built....I know who would put them out away from the house like that! I plan on "adjusting" there location....

When you were discussing the project, was a covered what we call a " breezeway" ever ventured upon? It would be nice on a -32* c night to go out to the mancave without entering the weather....
:-)

Oh yeah, I'm still way green with envy.

Lol

Think the side door on the current garage and the new shop side door will almost be in alignment so I will most likely one day put up a little roofed structure to stay out of the weather when passing from one to the other.

Looks great. The only thing I can mention is to put a vapor barrier somewhere below the slab. The rigid insulation might do the trick, but seal moisture from coming up into/through the slab and you will always be able to coat the floor if you want to.

Good point. I used 6 mil plastic with 2 inch blue board over it on my shop slab pour.

I tried my best to talk him into heating the floor with radiant tubing. Last I knew, Thrashing decided against it due to cost.

My shop has radiant tubing that I installed myself with the help of a friend. I thought it was, cheap, easy to install and the best heat source hands down.
I heat mine with a outdoor wood boiler. I go through a lot of wood, but by heating the massive amount of concrete in my shop the heat stays the same for along time.
I can loose power for a few days. in winter and the temp. in my shop only goes down a few degrees.

The other thing I love is water evaporates off the floor quickly and it is warm to lay on, which the dogs also love.

That is what I have...I had to dig out a lot of the soil and replace it with clean gravel and drainage pipe, then filter fabric, covered with lots of compacted sand under my 6 mil plastic and foam board.
A lot of my budget and time was getting where T-cows was the minute he dug his hole.
You are going to love the 1st gen storage facility!
