more tps problems...

first of all, sorry for being kind of new to this... but ive been doin alloootta reading on this and im kind of stumped.
a while back the truck was shifting in and out of OD, and if you would take it off and spray it up and work it in a little bit, then put it back on then it would be fine for a while. Then it was acting up again, and worse and worse so we decided to bite the bullet and replace the TPS. was good for a little bit, then it went haywire again. did some testing and was inconclusive. we then replaced the speedsensor. did nothing but made my speedo go crazy so we put the original back on and the speedo is fine now, but the trans doesnt want to shift into OD whatsoever at this time. I adjusted the TPS and figured it would be fine. took it for a test drive and it would shift into OD IF you would let off the gas at about 45-50 and it wouldnt kick out. Then went home and parked it, let it sit for say 5-10 mins and had to go to town and doesnt shift into OD anymore... please dont tell me i have to adjust the thing everytime i drive it? Im just getting sick of the no OD, somebody please help...

This is a very helpful post that I used to fix mine for about $8. It only takes a hour tops to do it and you can adjust when your overdrive kicks in.

Check it again with a volt meter and move the throttle slowly and see if the voltage increases smoothly or if it jumps around. What were the voltage numbers at idle and wide open throttle when you adjusted it? There is also an article in the sticky about doing away with the tps and installing a potentiometer in its place only costs about 10 bucks.

well at first it was at about .11 so i knew it was off. i then put it at about .7 and it didnt jump at all was a smooth increase and WOT was like 3.2 so it was in specks ill test it right now and come back with the numbers.

3.24 is too much voltage this info is from the sticky. It should range between .6 VDC and 1.20 VDC at idle. (make a note of the reading for reference.)
7. Next, slowly cycle the throttle smoothly to WOT then back to "at rest" and watch the meter. The meter should increase smoothly up and down with no jumps or spasms/twitching.
If it does, the TPS is still working OK, if not you've got a dirty one or its failing.
8. The total increase (above "at rest voltage") should range between 2.25 and 2.75 VDC WOT.

at its height its 3.24- its supposed to be 2.24-2.75 more then the idle voltage- according to the link in the sticky. so it should be right?

I see how that is worded now that I read it better and it seems that you should be ok at that voltage. I would see if I could get it down to 2.75 @wot and see if that lets it go into od. Maybe the potentiometer fix would work best for you I have one in mine and I love it.

Well the idle spec was .6-1.20 and you sain the idle voltage was .66 before so it was already in spec where did you set the voltage at idle?

i then changed it to .66 and so the WOT then went to 3.24...
hope that cleared it up a little bit?
