Mirror replacement?
Mirror replacement?
I need to replace the mirror on the passenger side of a 1992 D250 extended cab. The mirror itself is cracked. Can I just replace the glass and if so how? The mirrors are power mirrors. Also to replace the whole mirror do you need to remove the interior door panel? Can't find anything in the FSM about doing it but if I missed it could you point out where the info is? Thanks in advance.
If you have the power mirrors, as best I can tell, the glass is just glued on.
I have seen replacement glasses at various parts-stores and even sometimes at Walmart.
If your glass is mostly still all there, then you can even glue the new replacement right on top of the broken one.
I am fairly certain to get at the mirror mounting bolts the door panel must come off.

the door panel DOES NOT have to come off.
undo the little torx on the bottom of the mirror, slide the cover up, undo the 2 bottom 10mm nuts, then spin the mirror inwards towards towards the door and move the cover out of the way so you can get to the top 10mm nut. mirror will then slide off, disconnect wires. set it in a safe place

As Brandon has stated, take the cover off using the toques screw and see if you have two pop rivets showing; if they're there they hold the backing plate on to the inside of the door.
The only thing I'm not sure of is unplugging the wiring for the power mirrors. I thought they unplugged inside the door.

If you look up to the top right of the door shell you can see the bracket for the mirror, also the cable for the power mirror.

Another view of the harness.

Just a update. You have to remove the door panels to unplug the wire harness to the mirror. The plug connection is clipped to the door. I tied a strong string to the end of the wires to help feed it back through the door because it looked like a tight fit to get your arm in there. Thanks for the help everyone.
you can just replace the glass. There are a few aftermarket companies that list them but I found no one local to me that stocked them and where about $15 a side. Dodge at the time I was looking had them in stock at one of there warehouses and had lots of them. I think one side was $35 and other was $38. Ken

I imagine he paid a premium for it though...
