Maxi-Rag
People make fun of the I-Pod/I-Pad name, so I though I'd follow suit and call my project the Maxi-Rag.
I am re-engineering the Getrag to try and put bigger bearings on the counter shaft. I'm an engineer and I think I know what I want to do. Here's the idea:
The counter-shaft bearings are standard 30305 tapered roller bearings. I think I can fit a 32305 series bearing in their place with a little work. The 32305 is 7mm wider than the 30305, so I'll machine a pocket in the bell housing to give me clearance and put a flat plate across the front counter-shaft bore to retain the bearing. In the back I figure an 1/8 inch flat spacer, some custom shims and maybe modify the speedo gear spacers to get it centered again if I need.
The one piece I can't make will be a new counter-shaft center shaft. It will have to be longer and I'm not going to use snap rings on the ends. I'll capture it by making the bulged part in the middle longer.
I've made a custom PTO side cover to make filling the trans with oil easier and get 5 quarts in.
I want to try this on a "spare" trans. before committing by tearing my truck apart. ad removed ; ) I intend to share anything I learn here for free.
Wish me luck!
Here's my custom side cover.

I want to make clear that I am NOT selling these side covers. That is not why my original post says "Ad Removed".
I am trying to improve the transmission and my good faith appeal for assistance apparently upset the admins.
