Lost power
I was coming home last night from Christmas Shopping on the freeway when my truck started loosing power, it felt like I was running out of fuel or I had a massive amount of air in it.
I moved over to the slow lane after no one would let me over so I could get off and picked up a bit then just felt like I had lost maybe 90% of my power, I got home ok and drained off some fuel thinking maybe I had some water from the last fuel stop but it was clear, I don't have a tapped fuel line so I could not check fuel pressure but I cranked the engine around a couple of times trying to find the right spot on the cam to check the fuel pump but I was never able to get more that maybe 1/4 stroke of the manual lever and I could not build up enough pressure for the lever to get firm.
Of course it was 11:00 P.M. and I did not have a spare fuel filter to replace the one on the truck with so we all took the Volvo to finish our shopping.
So I am hoping it is something simple, I will pick up a couple of filters from NAPA to replace the fuel filter and a fuel pump (I think I have a Carter pump on it now) and give it a try, hopefully it is not the injection pump.
Maybe my fuel gelled, it got down to 60* last night here in Southern California and I about froze
The tapped Banjo bolt is from Geno's and is for a 2nd Gen correct?
So what do you think?
Thanks Jim

Im calling the lift pump. Maybe think about upgrading to something better than the stock lp, considering you have your pump turned up... Im running an unregulated carter 4601hp, it makes 10 psi after the filter with 1/2 lines. There are better options, but its cheap and you dont need a reg.

I'm thinking lift pump too. If the filter was clogged it would make the lever stiff on the pump because of the restriction. I was always told if you can't get the little lever to get firm its time for a new lp.

Time for the piston pump conversion.

Yep. There has been a random rash of expensive DPF emissions equipment installations into 1st gen 12 valve trucks recently by unknown individuals. The current theory is that the oil and gas companies are behind this to lower fuel economy of the much too fuel efficient 12 valve trucks.

You are in the helpful spirit though, and that is always good.

I recently experienced something somewhat similar. I had left the house and was turning out onto a main road and when I throttled it up I got nothing, not even boost. Was just a dog. After several minutes of looking I noticed my manual kill cable was bound up with the kill lever about 80% pulled back. I know u said you just lost power but if you're running a manual kill cable you may want to make sure it didn't bind on something.
