Unhappy Lost Boost after Gillett stage II install

After install I lost boost at WOT, from 25# to 22#. I lost a couple of pounds crusing too. Is this normal? I'm pretty sure I have no leaks and I felt no loss in power. The Gillett stage II is the same as the HTT stage III. Do these upgrades provide more volume instead of pressure?

Thanks Guys

You should have seen more boost. More volume would be more boost. Check out this thread. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=163573

I was gonna suggest you may not have the fuel for it. But with the pin and screw turned you should. Someone more experienced with turbos will have to take it from here. good luck.

Much of the boost over about 23psi made with the stock compressor is from heat. A larger, more efficient setup like what you've just installed will produce less heat to move the same amount of air. Hence less boost for similar EGT's and power. A larger compressor housing simply gives you headroom for more fuel Now crank 'er up some more and take advantage of that headroom

That o-ring on the housing only accounted for about 1 lb. in my case anyway. With the N/I injectors you should be able to get plenty of fuel. I'm getting 23lb. with the IC injectors and pump maxed.

Ace, there is no way you are maxed man, i'm making 32! I think its from my fuel pin, but I was making @25 before it. I would say that you are maxed out when you cant afford any more fuel cutoff plungers.

That's the problem with the IC injectors - they don't seem to flow anywhere near the amount of fuel the non-IC injectors are capable of.

Mike T- what happened to your EGT with the Stage 2? If they dropped, you achieved your goal. Boost is nothing more than resistance to flow, as G1625S said. With my new leak free, bigger intercooler, I didnt gain any boost, but dropped EGT considerably (like, 300deg across the board considerably), telling me it is moving more air and being more efficient about it.

Ace- I dont think you are maxed, either. If you are, your pump needs help. But, if you are happy with it, so am I. I can make 36psi with stock IC injectors on my set up. Take away about 6psi for the 12 vs 18cm housing difference, and I am still at 30psi. I still have room to grow, too, (fuelling-wise) though I think I am nearing my limit on injector flow, and any more fuel would put unnecessary stress on the pump. I know some bigger injectors would help my power, but then my clutch and other things may suffer (like my wallet from using even more fuel than I do) Have you checked your lift pump pressure going down the road? If it is weak, it will affect max fuelling capacity.

Daniel

Dan.
I did notice my EGT went down after install. I'm not exactly sure how much it was, I was more interested in my loss in boost at the time.

Naw, I think the pump's fine, fuel pressure is fine - piston pump, won't pull down below 11-12psi at WOT. EGT under load went up noticeably (+ ~100deg or more avg.) with the 12cm housing install, so there's definitely fuel there. Fuel screw is all the way in, pin turned.

I'm thinkin' ol' Smokey fuel pin at this point...
