little dissappointed

so i made my first trip to houston from beaumont this morning(abt 90 miles apart), my truck made it there and back just fine. i got terrible fuel mileage tho. burning 21 gallons i went 253 miles, some of this was driving around town yesterday. so this is twelve miles to the gallon correct? i figured i would be getting better than this.

oh also i was pulling a skidsteer the other day and had h**l puling it i was embarrassed it took forever to pull up to speed tehn i only was able to go about 55 this skidsteer prolly only weighs about 8-9k

i think all of this has to do with my transmission it seems kinda crappy, its a 518

what pump mods do you have?

if none that would do it
if lots ofpump mods the tourqe converter could be the problem.
mine will get up to speed pretty fast with the same or more load.

somethings gotta be up with my auto trans because i shouldnt have that much of a problem pulling a skidsteer and a trailer, ive pulled more weight with my old truck and it was an 02 chevy 1/2 ton with a v6, and honestly it felt about the same

When I first got my 91 D-250, I borrowed my buddies John Deere 1250 and bush-hog. I pulled out his drive with it and my truck did not want to hardly take off. I was dissappointed from what I had heard how these trucks would haul a load. Installed a 16cm housing, adjusted the injection pump and set of powerwagon injectors, then it came to life and would gerk that tractor and hog around with no problem.

Check your AFC diaphragm and make sure it does not have a tear in it also how is your fuel pin set.

Mine felt like it had no pulling power when the diaphragm was torn, I was not giving me any fuel.

The stock converter is pretty sloppy, but it aint that sloppy. When I bought my D250 I hauled my old truck home on a skidsteer. The D250 was stock and I definately felt it was embarissing when I took my buddy for a ride. After installing my first set of upgrades (16cm, POD's, mild pump mods) he and I both were blown away at the difference those mods made. I could easily pass folks w/ my trailer behind me. I would at least look into some gauges and pump mods, but the 91.5 and ^ have smaller stock injectors and don't respond to pump tweaks as well as the earlier trucks or when aftermarket injectors are installed. A torque converter and shift kit would do wonders too I've heard.
