Went for a drive over the mountains last week and I stopped on the way back to give the truck a check over. I found atf dripping from the torque converter inspection plate at the bottom of the bell housing. I checked the level and it was at the lower level of "OK" on the dipstick so I topped it up and carried on home. Where do you think the leak originated? The pump seals? I am dropping the trans soon to put a new converter in and would like to get an idea of what else I should do while it's out. Trans works good so I am hoping not to rebuild it but some upgraded pump seals should be done either way.

The same thing happened to me when towing down in the states during 100 F heat. The level was check several times during the trip and always showed good. I have a trans temp gauge and it was close to 190 when it did what yours had. Once it cooled down a bit it stopped leaking, so I chalked it up to fluid expansion and someone I queried on it claimed theres an overflow for situations like this. It's been fine since, no issues.
