Kingpins...

I posted this in a previous post but high-jacked it a bit so here goes the proper one.

I need to do the kingpins and have the typical un-even tire wear so am considering the camber correction kit (The chamber correction kit is Moog K992 (http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,11,K992)) but have some questions;
Would you guys ever recommend getting a kit like this (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...pin/index.html) or should one just get the individual parts? It looks like there may be some redundant parts between the camber correction and the rebuild kit.

Does the camber correction effect the handling much? My tires have always worn more on the inside. Is the camber correction kit worth the money? $100+ per side just for the correction is tough to swallow...

Thoughts...

Thanks!

I would first start by replacing at least the upper cup and spring, and if that doesn't fix your camber then rebuild the lower with new bearing/race. Then if that doesn't fix it I would use the following shims. Personally I don't like those camber correction kits, and have been told by the alignment place that they have seen them break.

MOOG Part # Range (deg)
k9804 -1/2 to +1/2
k9805 -5/8 to +5/8
k9806 -3/4 to +3/4
k9808 -1 to +1
k9809 -1-1/8 to +1-1/8
K98010 -1-1/4 to +1-1/4
k98012 -1-1/2 to +1-1/2

Also camber will mostly affect tire wear, but can cause a vehicle to pull if one side has more camber than the other side.

It seems everyone suggests if you are in there you might as well do it all. I am assuming they have never been done before and with 250k I would think they are getting worn but I am no expert. I have never done them on any other vehicle so really do not know what I am getting into...

Really you can do the upper bushing/spring without even taking the tire off, just take the weight of the truck off the wheel. Unless you need to actually replace the upper pin itself, which they're rarely worn.

I just replaced the upper bushings and springs last month. Easy as 1 2 3. I took my time, got interupted twice and finished in an hour. No special tools. Just wrenches, socket, impact and jacks. The parts were $15.00.Oh, don't forget the grease gun and lots of rags. I didn't reuse the gaskets. Instead I cleaned the surfaces and used RTV. That gives a little more compression on the spring.
