Keeping up with rust

So I found my oil pan has rusted through for the second time. This time I scuffed the new pan and shot it with two coats of epoxy primer and two coats of acrylic enamel with hardener. It should last longer now, I'll probably rattle can it black before I install it.
Also found the left side bed wheel opening had some rust. I was able to keep the repair under the molding so I didn't get too fancy with it, same silver as I didn't have the correct color but it's under the molding so it will do.

My roof had some rust around the drip rails, luckily it didn't go back into the cab,I had a bigger issue with that back in 2008 when I ended up fixing that and doing a total redo on the truck, there is a thread on that adventure. Also the clear coat failed so I sanded it down and reshot the roof with base/clear.

Now my right front cab mount has pretty much dissolved and so I am replacing it also, this was not pleasant to remove. My left front cab mount doesn't look so nice either but it's not near as bad as the right.

I also noticed my front shock mounts need replacing. Does anyone make these? I didn't see these on Jungles site. I will probably get his cab mounts while I'm there. I also bought a gallon of Fluid Film. Those of you that have used it, how did you like it?

This is why it's not a good idea to stop all oil leaks. My truck has an automatic rust prevention system.

Now that your truck isn't in Ca anymore that will help. Mine has had a 32 year head start on rusting. lol

Oil pan looks good! Shame nobody will probably see it though! About how much did all that paint/epoxy cost?

I need to do the same to my fenders now too...

The paints/clears I already had. ! gallon of epoxy primer/catalyst was about $155. I bought a quart of SEM trim black (for the wheel opening molding)
and that was $55. The prices of paint have really gone up in the last 10 years.

So I sprayed fluid film on my frame and didn't really like the condition my frame was in so I picked up another frame that's in much nicer shape and will have it sandblasted and I'll prime and paint it. I am also looking into replacing the leaf springs, as these are original (and rusty also). Does anyone have a recommendation for stock replacement springs for these trucks? Thanks

The 4wd shock mounts are made from fairly thick steel. I would scalp some off another parts truck. I think the 70's trucks are even thicker.

As for leaf springs.... my trucks have had seized eye bolts and/or swiss-cheese'd hangers. So what i do is leave the main leaf in there and renew the rest from other parts trucks.
If its all to too trashy to work with... Ive slid in complete springs and hangers (longer leafs that ride better) from newer dodges.

I don't imagine my springs are going to cooperate and come out easily. I would like to give this old mule a new set of springs.

Definitely check the hangers over for rust holes first.

Got the replacement frame stripped down and it's off to the sandblaster. All the mounts and hangers are good on this one.

Wow. This offers up SO many opportunities for upgrades and improvements! What else is on your list?

Definitely do something in the tank area to keep that from rusting. Seems like a box section there would be an improvement but I'm sure they're better ideas out there.

BTW - In one of your future shots, could you get the D700 in the background maybe? What do you use that beast for anyway?

Here's a couple shots, It was a fifth wheel tractor but I put the dump body on it. I used it mostly for gravel, dirt, etc.

Oh dang. A nice one, and it works too! Always good to see old iron getting used but not abused. THANKS!

My '51 B3 came from Orange CO, not far from you.

I got the frame back from the sandblaster and this is it with two coats of epoxy primer and two coats of Eastwood satin frame black, I've used it on the dump truck frame and it held up well.
