KDP info
KDP info
Here's some more input on the dowel pin situation. All last night I read everything I could about it and today she came apart. I HAD to know!! The pin had barely moved. BUT, the bolts for the gearcase were more of a concern. They were all what you might call 'just snug' and the one down by the oil pump was 'not just snug enough'. I peened the cover hole for the pin, torqued all the bolts and in went a new seal and gasket. I also found the compressor clutch bearing will need to be done pretty soon. All in all, not much work for a great big load off my mind. It's been eating away at me for a while, and my only excuse is lazyness. I would recommend to those that haven't done it to do it. It makes you feel good, if you know what I mean! Take care, Jim ;D
Re:KDP info
Yes, the KDP is a concern on the 1st gens. But, it seems that the 10mm bolt right below the KDP is more prone to backing out than the KDP on the 89-93 models. I have seen the effects of that 10mm bolt backing all the way out and it isnt pretty.
Re:KDP info
Hey Ramguy, the bolt in question is actually just above the cam gear and to the left of the injection pump gear. It only holds the inner gear housing to the block. To the left and up about a 1/2" from that bolt..you will see the KDP.
BTW: all inner and outer gear housing bolts torque to 18ft.lbs
