JC Whitney Ram Head Hood Ornament

You know, the one with the eyes that light up in red. Has anyone installed one of these? I just got mine, but before I go drilling into the hood, I needed some input. Seems kinda goddy. Way bigger than OEM. Carmyne

How big is that? My OEM rams head is about 3 inches tall. Does yours have the spring base so it won't get broken off?

I wish I had known about those before I paid $45 for the OEM.

With shipping, JCW was the same price as OEM. The ornament is soild to the base; no flex whatsoever. The body of the JCW ram seems to have a longer neck with a more lean, muscular look and the horns have more detail to them. It is the base that mounts to the truck that is rather big; about 2" wide by 1 1/4" tall at the front and tapers down to 1" wide by 3/4" tall at the rear and is about 6" in overall length. From the hood to the highest point, being the curve of the horns, is about 4 1/2" to 5" tall. The eyes are mean lookin', though .

Oh, yeah, you can order either all chrome(what I have) or 14K gold plated. Gold was cheaper at 39.00!!

The foot print of the base sounds like it won't fit on the narrow ridge down the center of the hood. My base is about 3/4 wide and about 3-1/2 long and not over 3/8 inch high.

Or maybe I misunder stood your description.

The OEM needs 2 x 1/4 inch holes 2-5/8 apart and a 5/8 hole 3/4 inch behind the front 1/4 inch hole.

Front of hood o O o

Send it back, buy OEM. I made the mistake way back when, ordered a chrome one from JC Junk. I had a goat from the factory, but mine was missing. Thought it would be a bolt up, nope. Bolt holes/studs do not match OEM holes in the hood. You have drill two new holes. Sure not a problem if you don't have a goat from the factory. I prefer OEM quality, not junk. It didn't even look as good as the OEM goat on my Dads truck at the time, so I returned it, and bought a new one from the dealer. Why put a el cheapo piece of junk on your truck when you can have a quality real deal piece. Just my opinion.
