interior question

hi

anyone ever take thier dash off to replace it with another? currently my interior is red and parts for it are impossible to find and a friend has a complete gray interior and im thinking about changing my entire interior to gray

just curios of how hard it is to remove the entire dash cover? everything else is easy other than that

thanks for all the input

Justin

to remove dash you either have to remove the windshield or cut the rubber where the screw's are at other then that it's a piece of cake

That helps me also, working on a wrecked truck where the dash is sprung. Windshield is shattered, so it will be pretty simple I how. The previous owner hit something really hard & wasn't wearing a seat belt.

cool! i plan on removing the windshield anyways. so basically just take the odometer panel thingy off (piece of cake, that wooden lookin piece) then the screws like you said

oh, does the glove box come out with the dash as one piece or is it its own separate unit

oh and id have to put my vin# tag on to

thanks for the help

Be careful with the vin. Ours are located on the dash and I'm not sure what the laws are where you're from but it is illegal to swap the VIN in some jurisdictions.

The gove box can stay with the dash but you will need to open it far enough to flop downward to get to two screws on the left side of the opening. Take your time it shouldn't be too bad.

just take your time, you'll think you have every screw then there will be a few left. Trust me!! Sucks hearing the plastic tabs crack when a screw was left in!!

I am sure you can find a drwaing but the easiest way is to just start on one side and work your way over should not take you lok=nger then about 20 min's to pull it out sense you have windshield access it's easy as for vin tag just use small pop rivet's and put it back in same spot should not be a problem there is a bracket on pas side under dash by heater system that can be a pain but other then that to swap dash over maybe a few hour's and several Beer's

You need to be really careful here, the VIN tag is held in place with a special rivet called a Rosette Rivet and it even though you were only honestly intending on replacing your dash if a cop looks at it in a routing traffic stop and it looks like it had been tampered with the cops could really screw with you.

After all of the rest of the VIN’#’s on the vehicle matched up they would believe you but you might be sitting along the side of the road for a while.

I would have to look but aren’t the rivets covered by the dash pad with only the numbers showing?

This is just a worst-case scenario of course but I would be careful, you can actually buy Rosette Rivets on the Internet for people who restore car, go figure and I think body shops can also get them.

From memory the rivets have 5 points and are not round. Also note that if the truck has spent most of its life in direct sunlight the plastic dash top becomes very brittle. It will not tolerate very much twisting and will snap like a piece of glass when twisted too far. One indicator of being brittle are small cracks forming.
