So I got to wondering about the powerstroke intercooler swap. With an A/C condensor, things are pretty tight as far as I know but what about those of us who don't have A/C? I am curious because I sort of want to know if anyone has bought and/or used an aftermarket 7.3 intercooler like a Spearco (among other things, it's thicker than an OEM 7.3 cooler). Yes it is expensive, but so is a custom intercooler. And the powerjoke guys seem to have real good results with it.

For that matter, why don't guys use the 6.0 intercooler? is it simply too tall at 21"? or...? or even a spearco 6.0 intercooler? It's my assumption something like a Spearco 6.0L cooler would simply not fit in our trucks.

Thoughts?

 

6.0 intercooler has the plastic tanks.

Its hard enough to make a 7.3 cooler fit, much less one any thicker. and bigger.

 

The powerstroke is about as big as you can go without cutting the front of the frame off.

3rd gen intercoolers are much taller

 

Yeah, that's sort of what I thought. I was actually considering and wondering if a spearco 7.3 cooler would fit in my truck seeing as how I don't have an a/c condensor to worry about.
